As a small business owner, you don’t need to be told that you’re a leader. You’re creating your own life, forging your own path, day in and day out. You’ve taken ownership of your life in a way that only people who’ve taken the same steps could ever understand or empathise with. But taking the driver’s seat is just the beginning, isn’t it?

When you start your own business, your life changes dramatically. Because ultimately, the success or failure of the enterprise is on your shoulders, and there are often many balls you need to keep in the air as you go along. It can be all too easy to get distracted in the small details and forget to keep your eyes on the big picture, or to fixate on something that used to work and to keep pushing that along, even if it’s not working any more. It’s not always easy to know quite where to put your energies for the best results.0leader

Ultimately, what is the aim of a business? Making money? No. Actually, what we think of as ‘the bottom line’ isn’t. Profit is a consequence. The aim of any business, including yours, is to attract, satisfy and keep a customer. That’s your job as a business owner: attracting, satisfying and keeping your customers. That’s how you measure your success: your customer’s satisfaction.

Keeping this simple principle in mind, the Business Accelerant presents our six-part series: ACCELERATING your business through LEADERSHIP.

Over the next weeks, we’ll be considering some of the responsibilities and skills of leadership that will help you grow your business through sharpening your vision, implementing that and building measurable results from your efforts.

You can look forward to posts on the following:

  • Setting SMART goals.
  • Focus, prioritising and time management.
  • Becoming a role model (and why it matters.)
  • The necessity of innovation.
  • Problem solving.
